MATTE collaborated with SSENSE to bring Imaginary Cities: Chapter II to life in Chicago, marking a celebration of Burberry’s Alpine at Night capsule collection. This immersive project extended SSENSE and Burberry’s storytelling into both physical and digital realms.

MATTE was tasked with crafting a multidimensional experience, encompassing a physical installation, audiovisual art pieces, and a live event featuring performances and content capture.

The result was a series of installations where elements of the natural world seamlessly merged with industrial aesthetics. Transforming the Burberry store into a gallery-like space, MATTE contrasted the store’s soft tones and textures with SSENSE’s industrial minimalism, incorporating stainless steel, exposed wires, and sleek custom fixtures. Drawing inspiration from technology’s potential to harmonize with nature, we explored how machines interpret visuals, blending natural and artificial worlds through algorithmic processes. Collaborations with visual artist Oscar Zabala and sound designer Alex Mackay brought these concepts to life.

Opening night showcased Chicago’s culture with a movement piece by Footwork Crew The Era and musical performances by Ravyn Lenae.
